Duck Heads
Duck Heads
Alright guys, here's a little written explanation on the duck heads, that I think a few of you might have been waiting for! Since introducing freeze dried treats (ones that aren't a body part) I've been able to explain the wonderful benefits of freeze dried treats. You'll often hear me refer to them as "very nutrient rich," but what do I mean by that?
The process of freeze dried treats is unique because it allows all of the nutrients to stay in the treat. Making it taste better, and provide more health benefits for you dogs or cats. This is not to say that my other treats that were cooked or made differently aren't good, BUT - you just can't beat freeze dried! (Unless you are feeding raw)
You'll also hear me say that the freeze dried treats I carry are the healthiest or best treats I've got. Because my goal is to give you treats that are made with good/better ingredients than the mainstream big box store treats, that's what makes freeze dried the best. They are either single ingredient treats, or a combination like the ones I've got in stock right now. Ingredients of the beef nibs, for example, are: Beef, beef lung, beef liver, beef stomach, beef heart, beef fat, beef kidney, beef blood, herring oil.
Raw/freeze fried raw is the purest, most biologically appropriate form of food or treats for our dogs. If you think of wolves in the wild, you don't think of them eating a bowl of dry kibble from a bag. And if that's what you think they eat..then we might need to chat more.
Our dogs are certainly more domesticated and "humanized" than wolves, but that doesn't change their DNA, natural instincts or the fact that they are descendants of wolves.
While society has you believing that the bagged food you buy is full of the best ingredients and "handcrafted with love" - they are pretty much full of shit.
I know pet parents are all doing the best they can with the information they are given...and now I'm getting started on a rant. Let me reel it back in to the duck heads...if you have questions on the food you're feeding your dog - holla at me!
The duck heads have confused a few people because 1. "Omg what is that?!" 2. "I thought dogs couldn't eat certain bones?" and 3. "Are you sure it's safe?"

It's a freeze dried duck head. It's crunchy, it won't last long, but your dog will love it.

Excellent question! Dogs cannot have cooked bones. Those can splinter and cause poking at the gums, damage to their mouth, throat, and cause intestinal damage if swallowed. Cooking them also removes any nutrients from the bone anyway - so it's a pointless and harmful thing to give your dog. Basically a big fat no! The duck heads aren't cooked. They are freeze dried. The teeth/bones aren't cooked, so they will not splinter, nor are they hard like an elk or deer antler if that is what you had in mind.

Yes, I'm sure it's safe! In fact, along with being safe, it's incredibly healthy for your dog to have treats like this. They will love the change in texture, smell and have fun figuring out where the heck their paw some mom found such a yummy treat! Duck heads act as a natural toothbrush, while also providing calcium and phosphorus!
I hope this helped clear up any confusion you may have had about the duck heads! I know not everyone will want that kind of treats in their home (they actually aren't messy or smelly) because of the way they look, but I will encourage you to focus on the benefits & give treats like this a shot!
I'll be adding more treats like this to the shop. As always, I'm so thankful for your business and trust in me. Your dogs deserve the best! If you have any additional questions, don't hesitate to ask! Also, the duck heads will be back in stock soon!
Love, Mel, Mac & Prada
